Extended data output (EDO) is a DRAM chip technology which improves memory by 10 to 15% compared to their equivalent Fast Page Mode.
Computer systems must be designed to take advantage of this performance increase EDO offers.
Triton Intel chips used in computers such as Pentium, are designed to exactly that. EDO memory may be installed on most computer systems of others, but it will work and perform
as Fast Page Mode Module memory.
How EDO work?
DRAMs are designed as an array of bits. Each bit is accessed by a row and column address. Controller memory in a computer system Provides guidance to access the data in each bit.
A DRAM 60ns provide these data in the memory controller within 60ns. However, certain time constraints for the memory controller to establish directions, receive data, and prepare for the next cycle. A memory cycle may vary throughout the 85 to 120N.
Fast Page Mode reduces cycle times by allowing the memory controller to access the data bits that are also in the sense line. This saves time by not having to define Training the next row address. The data available in the same row is called a "page".
Data Extent output (EDO) may improve cycle times further by allowing the memory controller to initiate a statement of the new column address if it is reading data at present. Unlike FPM, the data output drivers are not disabled when the memory controller eliminates column address to begin the next cycle. This saves about 10 ns per cycle.

"I can add a memory module 2GB 3rd slot?
I have an Intel Motherboard with DP965LT 4 memory slots and now 2 slots are occupied by the configuration of two modules of 512 MB of memory MEM is because they do not want to get rid of the two existing modules 512 memory.
I recommend having two 1 GB modules in place to maintain Dual Channel mode.
