Lenovo Ideapad S10 Review

Build and Design

The design of the IdeaPad S10 is unsurprisingly similar to other netbooks we have seen in recent months, but Lenovo has managed to include some pleasant surprises. The exterior is covered in white "Pearl-like" plastic with a slight sheen. The keyboard and Palmrest The interior surfaces are coated with matte white plastics with reasonable durability and less bending around Palmrest when Press firmly on those surfaces.

The first thing that seems to be a robust hinge giant 10-Inch Screen is really the 3 cell battery with a small hinge on each side of the tiny laptop. Overall, the look is very nice, but the white plastic gives this netbook a slightly "toy like" appearance. When I took the S10 with me and wore it in public with my daughter 2 years, daughter nearby several other parents asked me if the S10 is a portable toy for my daughter. This is unfortunate because, as we speak, the S10 is an ultra-Portable Laptop very capable.

The quality of the construction of the IdeaPad S10 Battery is extremely solid for a laptop This size and weight. The construction is mostly plastic but all plastic feel strong enough to control that was released towards the inside a backpack.

In terms of expandability, the Lenovo S10 S10 battery life is much easier to upgrade than many netbooks currently on the market. Some of the netbooks we've seen so far must be dismantled so complex that you can get the disk storage, RAM system or wireless cards. Worse still, some other netbooks have slots for upgrades but no connections on the motherboard so it is impossible to Updated. This is not the case with the S10.

Keyboard and touchpad

Most low cost, full-size notebooks currently on the market feature poorly built keyboards that show significant flex / bounce when typing pressure is applied. Fortunately, most netbooks are equipped with keyboards very strong due to the fact that the chassis is so there is little empty space inside the notebook for the keyboard to flex or bounce.

The keyboard on the IdeaPad S10 is less narrow than we have seen more than 7 inches and 8.9-inch netbooks, but the S10 keyboard is still very compact. Most typists Touch probably need some time to find proper placement of fingers on the keyboard to avoid typos. Again, this is not new for netbooks, which typically require the use of a "hunt and Peck" style of writing rather than touch methods traditional writing. In summary, this keyboard is not designed to be used as mainframe / Main. For users considering the S10 as the computer's "main" in your home or office, a full-sized keyboard full external external mouse is recommended.

The design of the Touch Panel, smaller than a traditional laptop touchpad, is surprisingly Nice for a budget netbook. The touchpad in our review unit was a Synaptics touchpad with excellent sensitivity, responsiveness and smooth tracking. Touchpad buttons are in the right position and have nice, deep, well cushioned presses with a satisfying click "when pressed. A nice addition to the touchpad is Synaptics support multi gestures that allow you to do things such as zoom the image, simply by pinching or "spreading" the touchpad with your finger.

Display

The matte 10.2 "WXGA (1024x600) TFT reflective screen on the S10 is nice and vibrant with rich colors and good contrast. The white levels are very clear and the matte surface prevents glare and reflections that help to make the screen easier to read outdoors in bright sunlight.

Angles horizontal vision are good, if a friend and you will have no problem with the film in the 8.9-inch screen at the same time. The vertical viewing angles are acceptable, but the colors tend to be darker and a little lower, seen from below.

Ports and Features

Port selection was quite impressive on the S10 compared to other netbooks, with the star of the characteristic of being an ExpressCard expansion slot and Bluetooth use a mouse and external keyboard without sacrificing one or two more USB ports.

In fact, if not much to complain here, except that the S10 has only two USB ports. However, if we had to choose between a third Usb Port or an ExpressCard slot and Bluetooth we will gladly sacrifice the third USB port. Here's a quick overview of what you get:

Front: No ports only indicator lights and speakers.

And benchmarks

This Intel Atom based Netbook, not to break speed records, but he has done more than adequately for normal activities. Starting Windows was less than 30 seconds and Web browsing, word processing tasks and even photo editing were frankly "agile." While the number of reference 3D graphics are not particularly impressive, it is important to note that netbooks are not designed to play games computer. The S10 and similar netbooks are mobile internet portals and productivity tools for Rapid work without having to carry a giant laptop.

Speakers + Audio

The speakers on the IdeaPad S10 is quite impressive for a budget netbook. While two small stereo speakers located on the edge netbook produce good volume levels with minimal distortion and acceptable range, it is worth mentioning the somewhat odd placement.

Because the speakers are located on the edge of the notebook, the sound is not being directed up and toward the user when the S10 is used as a laptop. In fact, our staff usually refers to laptop speakers with this type of placement as "crotch speakers" because the speakers are directing sound to your waist instead of his ears. Given the compact design of the S10 had a lot of other places for speakers to do, but we would like to see some place different speaker on the model next year.

The headphone jack in the S10 works well with three different brands of earphones I used during testing. No static or noise has been observed through the outlet, in addition to the imperfections the audio source itself.

Heat and noise

As we see in our labs, nearly all Intel Atom netbooks produce a certain number of sensible heat during the race. The IdeaPad S10 will keep pace with the competition in this regard. Even under normal circumstances, such as surfing the web, write documents, or discharging attachments to emails, the outside temperature peaked above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, after more than 25 minutes of use. Granted not the heat level is horrible, by any means, but perhaps a little ill at ease in his return after one hour.

The hottest place in this netbook was the area around the Hard Disk and RAM. The external temperature readings below (listed degrees Fahrenheit) were recorded while browsing the Web and perform two tests HDTune away after about 30 minutes of use

In terms of noise, our review unit of the S10 was quiet for most of the Probation ... except the cues graphs. When the relatively weak integrated graphics were highlighted during our review of internal Cooling Fan kicks on speed higher. Fan noise was not horrible by any means, but it would be high enough to get the attention of a teacher in a class in silence. Again, this is where stress S10 graphics, you should not be an issue for casual web browsing.

Drums

Normal use, backlight at 100 percent and using wireless technology for Web browsing and viewing streaming videos of some 75 per cent in volume, the S10 managed to deliver three hours and 43 minutes of battery life. This is similar to what we've seen from Atom based netbooks with 3 cells, so it is much to complain here. However, as we have said in past reviews of other netbooks, these laptops can make excellent companions for small mobile if there was no option for a 6-cell or 8 cell battery for everyday use. In any case, reduce the brightness of the screen turn off the radio and the card should provide enough battery life for extended use with a battery 3 cells.

Evaluation of laptops: the best brands?

Poll: Which brand of laptop is the best with these qualities? Long-life - Good Value maintenance, battery life low - price - Good technical support Sony Vaio Acer Lenovo Toshiba Dell Ibm LG I have read many forums where users have difficulty in online and Dell Studio optical drive crashes, the touchpad becomes unresponsive, the base plate and the backlight does not work, etc. Also Sony Vaio hard disk problem, the keyboard does not work, wifi, etc. Please give your opinion

OK, first, the worst CRAP U can get it from HP. HP has very poor customer service and products are standard submarine. Thus the list was Apple or Dell manufacturers (depending on whether you want or Mac OS X or not) Alienware (now owned by Dell) Lenovo (solid, but expensive) Gateway (Yes, I know that the habit to be bad, but they have models better, much better), Toshiba and LG (seriously, WTF what most laptops Enterprise!) Dell I used all my life and I do not remember having problems with the exception of occasional overheating when kept in bed for long periods of time. but of course I'm blocking the airway. Dell has also produced very strong, I threw my laptop Inspiron 4 feet high, or even scratch. and btw who was 7 pounds.
